academy awards part I

i have a love/hate relationship with this look. on the one hand, i love zac posen. he's an amazing designer. the dress is classy and unique as is the sparse jewelery and the black point shoes. so that's the love part. what's the hate part you ask? her hair. it looks like a helmet styled and set on her head. the side swept bang, if you can call it that, and the poofed hair in the back don't really do anything for me.

oh teri, what are you thinking? this get-up is far from the glamour a new hit tv star should have. the black tube top and unfitted dowdy gray skirt aren't flattering. all the magazines say you have an eating disorder now, how about using to that to some advantage and getting something that fits? designers make their best stuff in small sizes, how about taking advantage of that. the bag is an ugly square boring thing, and the peep toes shoes are an obnoxious color of royal blue/purple. true, it is stylish not to match your shoes to your clothing, but silk royal blue shoes and a cheap looking gray skirt do not fit into this category, hate to break it to you. better luck next time.

this, ladies and gentlemen, is glamour. she looks classy yet young, simple yet luxurious. i'm usually a fan of hair being let down and loose, but with her earrings, her hair being up looks really classy. the dress is fabulous, especially the straps in across the back. there's not really anything i can say bad about heidi except for her date. can we all take a look at the shoes seal is wearing. yeah, those would be tan cowboy boots. not exactly screaming 'couture' or even 'celebrity', but hey - atleast he's got a hot date.

oh madanna, what is going on here? first i've just got to say, bright pink lipstick? not such a good look. the dress isn't bad, neither are the shoes. but those arms? those are out of control. she needs to tone down the weight training just a little bit. she can't be looked at as being feminine in that pink dress when her arms are more muscular than any of the men's in the room with her. we know you're getting old marge, jacking up isn't going to delay the process.

the fit and color aren't terrible with this dress although i'm not a big fan of the black netting on the chest part. however, the hair and makeup are just not working here sandra. the orange blush, light pink lips and nonexistant eye makeup just looks horrible. did she even do her hair? it looks like she just threw it up in a messy bun and thought 'hey i think i'll go to the oscars like this'. not a good idea sandra.

although some may disagree, i like this look. the shortness of the dress seperates christina from the pack of gorgeous girls in long couture dresses. this dress is unique, the neck line and the length are flattering on her short frame and her makeup looks flawless yet natural. the red velvet shoes aren't my favorite, but they are not noticable enough for me to dislike the ensemble.

ok, everyone say it with me, 'felicity, you're not 20'. i'm sorry, but this dress and hair do is way to young for a 40 something year old. granted, she looks very pretty and has the body to pull it off but she just looks like she's trying to hard. put someone else in this get-up and go more sophisticated felicity, trust me.

heath ledger and michelle williams are quite a stylish couple. lately michelle has been choosing couture gowns for red carpet events and she always carries them off well, this dress is no different. it fits her perfectly and is unique, the tieres and the lace, but also classic because it's black. her hair and makeup are simple and subdued and she just looks really natural. extra points also for being the only attendees who held their own umbrella.

so this is a hard one. in half the pictures this dress looks really good and in others.. well not so much. so we'll start with everything else first. mischa's hair and makeup are simple and classy, as are her jewelery choices, but the dress is another story. when looking at her straight on, she looks like she's wrapped up in some kind of couture bondage, as she does when seeing the right side of her. however when her left side is facing the camera, with the jeweled strap and some skin showing, the dress seems almost pretty, in a grecian sort of way. another quam? the back of the dress. the fabric draped over her ahem.. butt, falls weird, making her back side look bigger than it is. it'd also be sexier and have a higher 'wow' factor if it went lower in the back, instead of just midway.

does renee ever wear a different style? the neck line and weird skinny straps just help call attention to her ghostly white, semi-bulky looking arms. the back of the dress however, reaches a new degree of weird ugliness. she seems as if she's been wrapped up as a present meant to be placed under a tree, black ribbon and a white bow. renee, repeat after me, 'stylist, you are fired'. she maybe channeling old school angelina jolie with the mortisha adams look, but it's definetly not working (it didn't for angelina either).

this is what glamour should be on the red carpet. the balenciagas, the oscar de la rentas. this dress is show-stopping but without being over the top, the perfect balance. the lilac color brings a feminine touch, with the black accent adding elegance and class. it fits perfectly, and the jewelery is kept simple. the only thing working against this ensemble? the hair. it is too fussy and pulled back, hair sprayed and tight. something like loose curls would have made this dress look more natural. however, the dress and the makeup do their job and outshine the hairsprayed to death hair, and she looks very elegant - a true red carpet glamourous look.

alright, we all know charlize is a red carpet pro, but this dress leaves some of her 'red carpet credit' if you will, up for discussion. the fabric and color are very pretty and the jewel tone definately looks good with her coloring and complexion. however the fit is up for debate on this one. the draping, starting at her waist adds pounds to her hips and gives her a pear shape by narrowing again at her feet. the zipper pull, hanging in the center of the neckline of her dress, looks cheap, something you'd find on a walmart polyester t-shirt and doesn't add any glamour or luxury to the ensemble. another quam, true: it is not always stylish to match your dress and accessories, but charlize's jewel toned dress and lavender clutch? that's too unmatched. however, in all fairness, her hair, shoes and sparse jewelery all look classic and do overpower the eyesore of a clutch she's carrying. the draping of the dress however takes miss theron out of the running for best dressed on the red carpet this time. oh and is it too much work to hold your own umbrella?

this dress is just horribly wrong. first of all, the fabric looks like it cost about 2 cents a yard, and then in a hurried panic it was draped around this poor woman's pregnant belly and pinned in non-strategical places to keep it together. the lump of fabric vertically down the left side of her body looks messy and screams of a poor fit, however the lump is meant to be there, who would've guessed. the neck line makes her chest look likes it's been wrapped up in bondage, never to be seen again. the lack of jewelery and nude shoes just call more attention to that eyesore of a dress. but hey, atleast her hair looks good.

nicky vs. lindsay

ok so i'll admit it, both girls do look good in this matthew williamson dress. nicky's blue is accented well with her blonde hair, and her chole bag also looks good, although it doesn't really enhance the outfit at all. her jewelery, sandals and sunglasses also are subtle enhancers.
lindsay's dress also looks good with her newly blonde hair and tan. the white version allows the stitching detail to stand out a little bit more than the blue version does, and lindsay's balenciaga bag really accents the dress well. she also gets extra points for having her hair back and looking a little more done up than nicky. for this reason and the balenciaga bag she's toting, she gets my vote for pulling this dress off the best.

paris vs. christy

paris needs to realize that she doesn't have a chest, then maybe she'd pick a dress that isn't huge on her. it also succeeds in adding about twenty pounds to her hips, not the best thing i've ever seen her in. also, side note - where the hell is she? the potted plant and beige wall don't really scream 'heiress'.
christy, however, also missed the boat on this one. the coat is sophisticated and night wear but the dress isn't. she seems like she was out shopping on a spring day in a breezy pink dress, and then decided 'oh hey, how about i go out to a premiere' and in doing that just threw a velvet dress coat over her day dress. i know, i know, the truth hurts. but she does get credit for having a dress that fits her, doing something to her hair might have dressed it up a bit though.
